The waiting begins...
Our goal was to have the first step of the adoption process completed by the end of 2004. That way, we would be on schedule to travel to Taiwan by the end of 2005. The Taiwan coordinator at our agency was supposed to travel to Taiwan the beginning of January and she wanted to hand carry our documents to the orphanage. We had already mailed her the dear birthmother letter and collage and were waiting for the finalized version of the home study from our social worker.
We were under a bit of a time crunch because our social worker came back from vacation only two days before the Taiwan coordinator was supposed to leave the country. Luckily, our social worker was able to get a hold of us while we were in San Antonio for the New Year. She made the corrections necessary to finalize the home study and overnighted a copy to the agency.
This means that we should be on a waiting list with the orphanage. Now, we sit back and wait for a referral.
In the meantime, we have sent off an I-600A form to the USCIS (formerly INS). We have to file this form to tell them that we plan to file another form after we know the name of our child. How's that for bureacracy?
