Our Adoption Story

We intially created this website to update family and friends about our journey to adopting a baby from Taiwan. We traveled to Taiwan in December 2005 and brought home our wonderful baby boy, William Ke-Fan. The blog has been such a hit with family and friends that we have decided to continue it.

Heading Back Home

We were apprehensive about traveling for such a long time with William. We spent about 26 hours in airports and on airplanes before landing in Houston. He did amazingly well for his first trip. The flight attendants brought us a bassinet for him to sleep in. They put a box inside with pillows and a blanket for him to lay in. He barely fit from head to toe.

For the entire trip back home, we only suffered through one crying spell that lasted about 30 minutes. Allen took Will on a walk through the plane after that to calm him down. They talked with a flight attendant and the co-pilot. The baby was even given a certificate for his first flight. Apparently, this is a hold-over from the beginning of commercial flights when it was a big deal for people to "leave the surface of the earth...in a heavier than air machine".

We spent the night in Houston. Aunt Jen Li and her fiance, Vu, came to meet William for the first time. It was nice to spend an hour or so with them before we crashed for the night.

The next morning, we saw our friends, Paul, Amanda, and Dalton. They drove down from Austin to meet Will.

As you can see, William was very interested in Dalton. We had lunch with our friends at TGI Friday's and they dropped us off at the airport. Then we we took our last flight. We were definitely glad to be home after this long trip. All three of us slept well Thursday night.
