Our Adoption Story

We intially created this website to update family and friends about our journey to adopting a baby from Taiwan. We traveled to Taiwan in December 2005 and brought home our wonderful baby boy, William Ke-Fan. The blog has been such a hit with family and friends that we have decided to continue it.

Speaking of new babies...

I have been meaning to post on here for quite a while about the fact that we are adopting again. For those of you who don't know, we started the process for a second adoption. We are adopting from Taiwan again, using the same agency and orphanage as with William's adoption. This time, we are requesting a baby girl. Our home study, birth mother letter, and collage were sent to Taiwan the end of June. We are just waiting for word of our official waiting list date. That will be the day that we officially went on the waiting list. We hope to find that out in the next couple of weeks.

The process has gotten much longer since we started William's adoption over two and a half years ago. Referrals are now taking an average of 14 months with the wait for girls running much longer than for boys. When we adopted William, we received his referral in 5 1/2 months (quick even back then). His overall adoption process took about a year. So, we are anticipating a total process of 2-3 years including the home study process. We started our home study about 5 months ago.

We have set our minds for a long wait. Hopefully, that will make it easier to go through it. Besides, we have William to keep us busy this time around.

I have been thinking a lot lately about how much William has changed in the year and a half since we brought him home. We are rounding the corner to his second Adoption Day (Dec. 21). It's hard to believe there ever was a time that he wasn't our son. He is such a central part of our family now. Here are three pictures: one from his referral, one from our trip to Taiwan, and a recent picture. See for yourself how much he has grown.
